Fashion-conscious from a very young age, Beagy’s first full sentence was “Don’t touch my shoes”, the words of a true fashionista in the making. Raised in Europe, Beagy was exposed to a variety of styles and cultures that she incorporates in her style today. It was her love for fashion that brought her to New York to study textile/fashion design and merchandising. She began her career as a fashion merchandiser where she was sent on travels to countries like Asia to learn more about design production and fabrics.

Still on a journey to further develop her craft and passion, Beagy worked in many other areas of the fashion industry such as design, showrooms and editorial, it was during this journey that she built a sizable rolodex that would later help launch her career as a fashion stylist. Beagy is currently working as a fashion stylist and personal shopper. She recalls: “I never even considered becoming a stylist professionally. All of my friends & co-workers would come to me for style advice or to help them re-vamp their wardrobe. I was having so much fun doing it; I never saw it as a job”. If Beagy can’t be found on the set of a fashion shoot she is likely to be found shopping with a stack of YSL, Chloe and Roland Mouret in her arms… for her clients, of course.

Beagy’s latest venture is L’Armoire Du Styliste, an international clothing , shoe and accessory rental studio for stylists & editors based out of New York. She has used her experience of working with other rental studios and knowledge of the industry, to create a super studio that fills the void that others in the past have missed. “I want my studio to be a full service rental studio. When a stylist comes in; I want to know that at the end of the shoot, the designer will be happy with the way they were shown, the stylist & team will have great shots for their books and everyone will have an amazing tear sheet in a magazine that will make the editor of that mag happy. That’s my goal.”

XEX-CLUSIVE BEAGY ZIELINSKI INTERVIEW

1.Do you consider your work bizzare and/or how do you relate to that concept ?

I don’t think it’s bizarre, I think it’s Avant-Garde. Its art. It’s like letting the fantasy characters in my head come to life, I love it.

2. When you were young, living in Europe, what did fashion mean to you ? What does it mean to you now ?

Fashion for me was always and still is my life. I don’t know what I would do if I wasn’t in fashion. It’s my job, my hobby and my religion, and I love every second of the up and down rollercoaster that is fashion.

3. When your on set, and something doesn’t go as planned, how do you handle the situation ?

To be honest most of my best ideas come when I am under pressure and the clock is ticking. So I welcome those moments…it’s not brain surgery, its fashion! If you don’t have fun with it, you need to be doing something else.

4. What are some fashion tips that you would give to men and women ?

Have fun with fashion & dress for your body/look, don’t follow trends that may not work for your body/lifestyle just because some celeb is doing it.

5. What magazine did you collaborate with to work with Eva Salvail ? Inked Magazine

What was it like working with EVE ?

It was great, I think we did an 8 pg spread in like 4 hrs, she knows what she is doing and does it well.

6. Are there any positive memorable moments in your career as a fashion stylist that you remember while working with a magazine of a celebrity ?

Every day that I work in the industry that I love, learn more and grow as an artist if a great day. Even the rough days are “good days” as long as I learned something from them…

Ericka Toure Aviance has been regarded as one of the most highly
recognized drag performers in the United States since she made her first
appearance in the NYC nightlife scene in 1999. Prior to Aviance success
in New York City, she resided in Portsmouth, New Hampshire were she did
not feel free to be herself. As a result, she always dreamed of being
apart of the New York City life. In an Interview with Paper Magazine she
moved to NYC not only for NYC nightlife, but to also have Freedom. Since
Aviance’s arrival to NYC, she has been immensely successful.

Aviance is currently a 2003 graduate from the Tisch School of Integrated
Dane of New York University, and is also a member of a sisterhood of
creative people known as the House of Aviance. In the Past, Aviance has
performed at the gay pool party known as Dr!p, Saturday night residency at
the Ritz, and the Spank Magazine Party at the House. Aviance has also been
on tour with Jonny McGovern, “the gay pimp”, in Virginia, Ohio, Miami,
Seattle, San Francisco, and Hawaii.

Despite her success, there are always bumps in the road. Recently, Aviance made an audience appearance at the Wendy Williams Show, were she was not allowed to ask “Hot Topic”
questions, she was placed in a seat behind a tall male were she could not
be seen, and was almost denied entry into the show due to the show’s “no
costume policy”. Lonnie Burstien, Producer of the Wendy Williams Show,
apologized to Aviance stating “ I sincerely apologize as it was never my
intention to offend in any way”.

Fans can expect Aviance first original song entitled, My Pumps, which was released along with a music video. Her song has already been aired on networks such as LOGO and MTV. She has recently wrapped up more songs that are scheduled for release sometime this year.

David Merrique is an Illustrator based in New York. His illustrations are drawings colored digitally. He incorporates strong use of hand-drawn line, color and flat shapes to describe form, light and shadow. These illustrations are in a world that does not exist. He creates them as he draws.

Unlike his illustrations, David’s drawings are very much based in reality. This is where his traditional art education shows. His portraits are mimetic, as he puts lots of time and care in his shading. It’s as if the figures appear to emerge from the white void that is the surface of the paper.

Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings have come a long way since their humble beginnings nearly a decade ago. Steeped within the gilded and gritty sounds of gospel, soul and funk, this nine-piece Brooklyn collective has continued to electrify fans, disc jockeys, critics, record collectors, and bloggers the world-over with their authentic, heart-felt sound. The authenticity clearly demonstrated on the band’s three critically-acclaimed albums – Dap Dippin’ (2002), Naturally (2005) and 100 Days, 100 Nights (2007) – captured and released by the independent Daptone Records. Their albums recall an analog era led by iconic studios like those at Motown and Stax Records, and have thrust the fifty-three-year-old Augusta, GA native and crew into the multimedia limelight.

Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings have appeared on CNN, Good Morning New York, MTV News, VH1, Conan O’Brien, Craig Ferguson, David Letterman, Jimmy Fallon, BBC Television, NPR radio shows like Morning Edition and Fresh Air with Terry Gross, and have been covered in a slew of publications, from personal blogposts all the way to feature stories in the New York Times Sunday Magazine, Newsweek, the Associated Press, Interview, the Village Voice, and Entertainment Weekly.

As distinguished as their recordings may be, however, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings have truly become renowned thanks to their incredible live show, not to mention their relentless touring. And though it’s certainly no easy task to keep such a vast ensemble on the road, the band continues to pack hundreds of clubs worldwide, from legendary venues like New York’s Apollo Theater, Beacon Theater and Central Park’s SummerStage to their show-stopping sets at Coachella, Lollapalooza, Roskilde, Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits and WOMAD.

On April 6th, 2010, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings will mark history with ther fourth album I Learned the Hard Way. Produced by Bosco Mann and recorded in its entirety on an old Ampex eight-track tape machine by Gabriel Roth in Daptone Records’ House of Soul studios, the record drips with a warmth and spontaneity rarely found since the golden days of Muscle Shoals and Stax Records. Sharon’s voice, never stronger, evokes at once the raw power of Tina Turner, the moaning soulfulness of Mavis Staples, the rhythmic swagger of James Brown, and the melodic command of Aretha. From the lush Philly-soul fanfare that ushers in “The Game Gets Old” at the top of the record, to the stripped down Sam Cooke style “Mama Don¹t Like My Man” at the tail, the band dances seamlessly through both the most crafted and simple arrangements with subtlety and discipline. This is the “Daptone Sound” at its finest and is a welcome breath of fresh air. But most of all, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings’ I Learned the Hard Way is a celebration of, and a testament to, the soulful and beautiful possibilities of music.

Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings’ new album “I Learned the Hard Way”, is now available via the Daptone Records Super Soul Super Store!

Whimsical elegance is the first thing that comes to mind when viewing Canadian designer, Marie Saint Pierre’s recent spring 2010 collection. Her latest collection was inspired by the Spanish painters, Miro and Feito, and in turn created these bold pieces into works of art by using basic black, white, and beige colors as palates with splashes of vibrant color. The wonderful aspect of Saint Pierre’s collection is that she has looks for every age; a woman in her 20’s or 30’s could make a statement in one of her mini-dresses, while a middle-aged woman could wear one of her modern floor-length gowns.

Saint Pierre has over two decades of experience as a fashion designer, and her vision is highlighted by her collection that showcased amazing asymmetrical pieces, super-ruched shirts, viscose jumpsuits, and romantic cocktail dresses. Saint Pierre stated “I liked the idea of taking something traditional and giving it a modern spin”. She definitely hit the mark with her complex silhouettes and use of classic colors: black, white, and beige. My favorite pieces are the harem trousers, paired with a gathered blouse, goddess dress with a gold neckpiece, and crepe dress with metallic gold sleeves.

The collection is perfect for those who prefer neither mundane pieces nor overly avant-garde looks. Marie Saint Pierre presents a perfectly harmonious balance of the two extremes. For example, her asymmetrical taffeta halter dress is modern and edgy, but not too extreme that it becomes difficult to find an occasion to wear it. The same goes for her mixed blazer with matching tailored pants; you could wear the outfit to work or to a dinner party.

The common word that is heard in reference to Saint Pierre’s spring 2010 collection is “3D”. This 3D effect is created by “ultra light materials that are bordered by contrasting bias cut bands that effectively control the fabric”. The architectural construction of her garments allow for this sexy 3D effect without looking weighed down.

Saint-Pierre’s work has a history of acclaim, having been featured in Elle Canada, Elle Quebec, along with having won numerous prestigious awards for her creations. Miles Sacha of the Toronto Star described her creations as being “long, flowing, artfully draped, surreal and romantic. In the words of the French, Saint Pierre’s collection is “très magnifique”! Also, look out for her upcoming fall 2010 collection that features floor-length gowns, cocktail dresses, and ready-to-wear separates.
