On October 31, 2013 Jaquet Droz treated a select group of VIP’s to a night filed with “behind the scenes” technique of artistic watch-making. Guests were invited to Tourbillon Boutique Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco and Costa Mesa, to immerse into Jaquet Droz’ history of hand crafted watches, with an experiential focus on miniature hand painting.
VIP’s browsed through numerous rare pieces on display, such as the great Perpetual Calendar Eclipse, the unique dual time zone watch Grande Heure GMT and several artistic pieces that reflect the trademark excellence of Jaquet Droz, with hand-painted, engraved and sculpted motifs. Another exceptional timepiece brought specially for the events was an antique Jaquet Droz pocket watch from the 18th century. Behind the cover – an enamel miniature painting featuring a gallant scene in a landscape – is an automaton with 18-carat gold figures.
Following the presentation, guests were offered a chance to hand-paint their own dials using authentic oil paint and fine brushes. The activity was guided by the Jaquet Droz Master Painter who flew in from Switzerland especially for the events. At the end of the evening, guests took home their hand-painted dials as a memory of this exquisite evening.

Pierre Jaquet-Droz was one of the greatest craftsmen of his time. Born in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1721, he was a master watchmaker of genius and vision who marked the history of his profession.
